Our Vision
The Portland Metro Teaching and Learning Coalition of the TeachOregon Project is committed to transforming teaching and the teacher career path continuum to better meet the growing needs of every student, teacher, and school in the districts of David Douglas, North Clackamas, and Portland Public in robust partnership together with Portland State University Graduate School of Education. We envision educational systems where success is honored, expected, and supported for every child and every teacher, and we expect our high quality well prepared teaching staff of the future to reflect the richness of the cultural diversity of our communities.
TLC Goals
- Use innovative equity-based recruitment and hiring practices to bring forward and identify quality candidates that represent the diversity of our student population.
- Build an undergraduate bridge program and a first-years mentoring program that creates seamless support for future educators and new teachers.
- Further strengthen our clinical practices in mutually beneficial school partnerships through aligned coursework, improved placement practices, and co-teaching experiences to increase student achievement.
- Align pre-service and in-service evaluation tools to include evidence of professional practice and impact on student learning.
- Strengthen K-12 student learning through development of career opportunities, ongoing professional development, new models of teacher compensation, and support for clinical practice cooperating teachers, coaches, and university faculty.
